Welcome

November is upon us and fall is in the air. For those of us in Phoenix, that means the temperatures are now back down into the 80s.

As we move towards the end of the year, people start to get sidetracked with the holidays. As a result, I'll keep this month's intro letter short, but there are a couple of key points I'd like to cover:

1. I know it has been a tough year for many, but if you happen to be one of the few lucky ones that has done OK this year, and would like to take advantage of some of the higher limits available under Section 179 deduction, please make sure to get in touch with us now so we can fit your project in before the end of the year. Section 179 is the section of the tax code that allows you to deduct the full amount of a capital expenditure this year rather than having to depreciate it over multiple years. An article with more details is included below.

2. Please don't forget what the holiday season is TRULY about. Here is a great way to help - http://www.therealgift.org  - this organization provides Thanksgiving dinners (with all the fixings) for homeless families with children in Phoenix area schools. Think about how much better you'll feel when you and your family sit down to Thanksgiving dinner knowing that another family is also sitting down to dinner as a result of your generosity.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the newsletter! Happy Thanksgiving!

The Importance of Thank You Notes

Thank you note with paperclip

The importance of writing thank-you notes was reinforced to me years ago when I was on a Delta Airlines flight to New Orleans. I fly a lot, usually a couple flights a week -- so when it comes to the service provided by flight attendants, I'm sort of an expert.

On that particular day I received exceptional service from the moment I boarded the plane. The flight attendant hung my coat up, got me some lemon water, which is what I always drink, and provided excellent meal service. She smiled easily, had a positive attitude and just seemed so happy to be of help.

And it wasn't just towards me. She treated all the passengers the same way. So, I took out a piece of paper and wrote a thank-you note to the president of Delta Airlines. His name was listed in the inflight magazine. In the note, I was very specific. I referred to the flight attendant by name, which happened to be Linda Williamson, and I described exactly what she had done. Then, before sending it in to Delta, I gave it to Linda to read.

Why did I do that? Because it's important for people to know what they did right, so they can do it again. Read more

Hooray - Windows 7 is FINALLY here!

For all of us on the technical side at itSynergy, we've been running Windows 7 for MONTHS, and now that the final version has already arrived, we are super excited that our clients can now join us in realizing the benefits and outstanding performance of this great new operating system.

In celebration of this new operating system, we thought we'd share one of the cool new utilities that comes with Windows 7. From the Run window, type DCCW. This is a free included utility that will auto calibrate your display to balance your color settings. It will also launch a second tool to tune ClearType settings. These two things combined can significantly improve your viewing experience when using Windows 7.

Enjoy!
